CEDAR KEY

Cedar Key is an island that is part of the "Cedar Keys". It is located in West Central Florida on the Gulf of Mexico. It is a short drive from Gainesville and Ocala. Cedar Key was named for the trees that once grew here It was settled in the 1840s by Augustus Steel The region supplied salt to the Confederacy by boiling sea water. It is now known as the "Nature Coast" of Florida, and attracts bird watchers, star gazers, and nature lovers from all over the country.
